What is the holiday that the florists give out a dozen roses to give away to others? I remember a few years ago when I was in college, people were handing out roses that they had gotten from the florists for free. I went by one to figure out what it was about and it was some sort of holiday where the florists gave you a dozen roses as long as you signed a paper saying you would give them all away. Does anyone know what this day is and when? Okay it's not one of the regular holidays like mother's day or valentine's day or easter (btw, that's a dumb answer). It was something like friendship day or amnesty day or something odd like that
What salary are Florists on in Amsterdam? We are in the process of looking for housing etc in Amsterdam (or surrounding areas) and i am a fully qualified British florist. How much are florists usually on in Holland? Is it similar to Britain where it starts at min wage?? Any help appreciated.

Do florists contribute to the escalating CO2 emissions? Deforestation of the rainforest's obviously causes the release of lots of CO2 into the ozone layer and is therefore frowned upon. But surely flowers go through photosynthesis too and therefore when they're cut for florists, CO2 is released into the atmosphere too but we seem to accept it as an industry that provides a good innocent service. Should there be some form of regulation in place (if there isn't already) to monitor such emissions?
What are some good florists or flower shops near UCLA? I want to send some flowers to my girlfriend but since I live up in northern California I'm kinda operating blind here. What local florists in the L.A./Santa Monica area offer high quality flowers, reasonable prices and delivery services?

Question for florists: How can I calculate the number of flowers for a bouquet? I saw on www.aquarelle.co.uk that for a bouquet having a diameter of 30 cms one needs 32 roses, for one of 25 cms: 27 roses and for one of 35 cms in diameter 37 roses. I want to use different varieties of flowers instead of roses, but do not know if this proportions will do. How does a professional florist determine the number of flowers vrs. volume proportion when making a bouquet?

Any good wholesale florists websites? I want to buy my flowers at wholesale and in bulk and do the arrangements myself, but I can't find a florist online that will charge an actual wholesale price for my wedding.
Any Florists out there with advice? I graduated from university this past august, and am already tired of corporate america. I've thought for a while that I would enjoy working in a flower shop, but am not sure how to pursue a job with a florist. By that I mean learning to be one myself, not just ringing up the flowers. My qualifications don't line up at all, yet... (I had a roommate whose mother worked in a florist's shop so I'm not ENTIRELY naive about the demands of wedding season and its brides, or the finger toughness necessary to wire countless roses) -- any tips/suggestions on how to approach so drastic a career change?
How do online florists work? I live in Massachusetts, and I want to send flowers to one of my family members in Arizona. Is that possible through an online florist? When I tried out on the websites, all they ask for is a zip code then it sends me to check out. I want to know how it works before I pay for them and if they actually will get there on time and the flowers still being fresh. Thanks.

How do florists keep their flowers fresh? Hi, I'm a High School Student. I'm doing research and experiment on this topic. How do they keep their flowers fresh, so they last longer? What substance/chemical do they spray/soak in it? How do they deal with the senessence thing? And I heard they cut it or something at someplaces... where is that and how? Does it work on any flowers? If I were to do the experiment, what type of flowers should I use? Not all questions above had to be answered, and any suggestions would be fine too. I just need infromation now. Thanks =]

I am the owner of a family run flower shop. I need to find florists very quickly, where should I turn? The thing is that I have the flower shop in Miami, Florida. And we get most of our florists by word of mouth. Because of some changes in the business, we have lost some florists. I have been looking everywhere looking to find quality florists, but no luck. Is there perhaps a website that I can post info on and will get noticed? I was hoping to do this at cost effectively as possible. Thank you very much.
Local Florists or Flower Shops near Wyndam Rio Mar in Puerto Rico? I am getting married in less than a month in Puerto Rico, and have a very low budget. All the florists quotes are way too expensive, so I am wondering if there is any where close to the hotel where I can buy my own flowers, the day of the wedding, and assemble them myself. Why is there a short-term skills shortage of florists in New Zealand? Is it bad pay (why Kiwis don't want to work as hairdressers) or early starts (why Kiwis don't want to work as bakers) but why is there a lack of florists? I'd like to get into NZ via an office job and then possibly retrain as one while I'm out there - but am wondering why it's not popular.... perhaps there's a good reason I don't want to be one!!
Why are florists paid so little? I recently finished my floral design courses and am quite discouraged by the starting wage employers are offering. I not expecting to get rich working within the industry, but the average wage so far is $8 hourly (CAN). I realize that one has to work their way up, but really who can live on that and be able to save for a rainy day. When you have paid alot of money to take the nessarry courses, where is the financial gratification in the long run? I make more money serving tables which is a no brainer. Floral design is an art and takes creative tallant to be good at what you do. Not that I would call myself an artist yet, I have a long way to go, but I know people who have been in the business a long time, and arn't nearly paid what they deserve. Any imput would be appreciated!
How do florists colour real flowers artificially? For example.. make a white rose bright blue? I am not talking about flowers that are normally that colour, I just bought some roses for my Mother the other day and you can tell that they were somehow dyed blue leaves and all, I was wondering how they do this.... I mean do they dip the flowers in dye(if so what kind) or do they somehow add something to soil or water to make them grow a different colour?? Details on the process(whatever it may be) would be appreciated!
